Here is the long awaited tutorial for my Lady Amalthea commission painting! In this tutorial, I show you how I painted the entire piece from start to finish, including the horse, the brocade pattern, the hair, the background, and all of the smaller details!😊
I use all of my usual mixed media techniques throughout the painting, combining watercolor, gouache, colored pencils, and this time also markers. There is also a beginner friendly section focusing specifically on the face and the hair, and you can download and print the beginner sketch below if you do not want to work on the entire composition. 🫶
The markers are completely optional. I use Ohuhu markers, but you can use other brands as well, or simply recreate the same effects with watercolor. I especially wanted to show you how I use transparent marker layers as a kind of glazing technique over watercolor to deepen colors and add more dimension.
I hope you have lots of fun with this tutorial, and if you paint along, please make sure to upload your finished piece to the Student Gallery!😄 I am really excited to see your versions and how you interpret the painting in your own way!
