In this tutorial I am going to walk you through the full process of my painting Emerald Moon, and I have also included a beginner segment that runs about two hours where we focus on painting the face, working through the portrait section, and then moving into the hair! That means it works really well for beginners and for intermediate artists, because you can either follow along with the entire painting from start to finish or you can simply use the chapters to jump straight to the beginner section if that is what you want to practice right now. If you do choose the beginner segment, I really recommend printing the beginner sketch much larger than the version I painted here, ideally on A4 sized paper or a regular watercolor block, basically anything that gives you more room to work. As a simple rule of thumb, try to keep the face at least the size of your palm, because going too small makes the features much harder to control, especially when you are still getting comfortable with the brushes and the shapes.🫶
