Paint with Lioba is my dedicated online learning platform for painting tutorials, creative lessons and downloadable course materials.
I created this website because I wanted a more organised and enjoyable way to present my courses. Unlike a traditional membership feed, the course library is designed specifically for students. You can browse and filter lessons more easily, search for particular subjects or techniques, keep track of the courses you have already completed and focus entirely on learning.
The course content on Paint with Lioba and my Patreon is the same. You do not need to subscribe to both.
The main difference is how the content is presented. Patreon works well as a membership platform, but its organisation and search functions are more limited. Paint with Lioba was created specifically as a course library, making it easier to find tutorials, filter them by subject or medium and keep track of your progress.
Some students prefer Patreon, while others prefer a dedicated course website. You are welcome to choose whichever platform works best for you.
Yes. You can cancel your monthly or annual subscription at any time.
Cancellation stops the subscription from renewing again. You will normally continue to have access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
For example, if you cancel a monthly subscription, you will retain access until the end of the current monthly billing period. If you cancel an annual subscription, you will retain access until the end of the paid annual period.
You may request a full refund within seven calendar days of purchasing a new monthly or annual subscription.
After the first seven days, payments are generally non-refundable. This means that an annual subscription cannot normally be refunded proportionally for unused months.
Renewal payments are also generally non-refundable. However, if you contact us within seven days of an automatic renewal and have not substantially used the course platform since the renewal, we may be able to offer a refund.
Mandatory statutory consumer rights remain unaffected. Please see our full Refund, Cancellation and Withdrawal Policy for further information.
After completing your purchase, log in to your Paint with Lioba account. Your active courses and subscription content will appear in your course area.
Access normally begins shortly after a successful payment.
You will have access for as long as your subscription remains active and paid.
After cancelling, access normally continues until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.
No. Each subscription and customer account is intended for one person only.
Please do not share your login details or provide other people with access to the course library.
First, try refreshing the page, signing out and back in, or opening the course in an up-to-date browser.
If the problem continues, contact us and include:
- the email address connected to your account;
- the name of the affected course or lesson;
- a brief description of the problem;
- a screenshot, where possible;
- the browser and device you are using.
This will make it easier for us to investigate the issue.
No. References and sketches are provided for the painting tutorials, so you do not need to create the drawing yourself before beginning.
You can download the provided sketch and reference image and use them to follow the lesson at home.
If you would also like to learn how to develop your own references and compositions digitally, the course library contains additional tutorials about my reference-making process. I create all of my own references and explain how you can develop your own as well.
You can therefore either use the materials provided or learn how to create your own.
There are currently a small number of drawing lessons available.
My main focus is painting, so the drawing section is currently smaller than the watercolour, mixed-media and oil-painting sections. The existing lessons provide a useful introduction to the basics, and more drawing lessons may be added in the future.
Yes! The course library includes material for beginners, intermediate students and advanced artists.
Most tutorials show a painting from beginning to end. Within each project, I explain both fundamental techniques and more advanced decisions. This means beginners can focus on the essential steps, while experienced students can study areas such as colour, edges, texture, composition and more complex painting techniques.
Especially in my newer tutorials, I aim to include something useful for different experience levels in every lesson.
The course library mainly focuses on two areas:
Watercolour and Mixed Media
My watercolour and mixed-media technique combines watercolour with materials such as coloured pencils, gouache and other drawing or painting media.
This approach is especially convenient for working at home because it requires relatively little space and the materials are easy to set up and store.
Oil and Acrylic Painting
Most lessons in this section focus on oil painting. Acrylic paint is sometimes used for the underpainting or early stages of the painting.
This technique may require slightly more space and preparation, but it can still be practised in a home studio with a suitable setup and proper ventilation.
Yes. The relevant tutorials include downloadable materials such as:
- reference images;
- sketches or line drawings;
- project-specific material information;
- general material recommendations.
These resources allow you to focus on the painting process without having to prepare every element yourself.
The exact downloads included may vary depending on the course.
Yes. You are welcome to use the materials and brands you already own.
Your colours or results may look slightly different from mine, but this can also help you learn how to adapt a technique to your own supplies.
Where a particular material is essential to the process, I will explain this in the relevant lesson or material list.
Yes! A brand-new tutorial is added to the course library every single month, so there is always something new to discover, learn and paint.
Each tutorial takes a great deal of planning, painting, filming and editing, and I am always excited to share a new creative project with you every month.
About Me
I’m a professional artist and art educator from Germany. My work combines fantasy-inspired subjects with influences from ancient history, decorative art and artists such as Gustav Klimt. I originally started as an oil painter, but over time I developed my own mixed-media approach using watercolour, coloured pencils, gouache, acrylics and other materials. Teaching has become a very important part of my creative work. I have taught hundreds of students online through tutorials, courses and live classes, and I love helping other artists understand techniques in a practical and approachable way.
I created Paint with Lioba as a dedicated space for my students, where my tutorials are easier to browse, search and follow. My goal is to help you develop your skills, discover new techniques and enjoy the process of creating your own art.
