Painting a Gustav Klimt Inspired Egyptian Portrait w Golden Watercolors, Gouache and Color Pencils!

Here comes your Real-Time Video Reward for June! In this video you will see how I went about paintng my “Hathor Lady-of-Turquoise”. I struggeled quite a lot with her face and the crown and at one point I wiped parts of it off because the paint got too thick and rough. The problem here was mostly my reference because it didn’t have enough details to be painted properly. So I ended up winging it and just painted the pattern on the headdress more tidily than on the reference. In addition I had to buy turquoise shaded limunance pencils in order to get the colors of the skin tones right. But because I ended up going over most skin parts with gouache anyways I don’t think it made a big difference after all!

I used these Turquoise and Blue tones for the dress (I also mixed in white, yellow and ocher for the skin) – First rows are Watercolors, Second row Gouache Paints:

For the paper I used a single sheet of “Hahnemühle Bamboo-Mixed-Media” paper which I cut to size for my compistion. I fed the paper into my printer to print out the sketch so that I could start painting immediately after having worked for days on the reference – you can read about how I made the reference in this Post here btw: [Available for Members]

This time I used Metallic Golden Watercolor Paints from FINETEC ([Available for Members] and I really love them! You can see how much they shine in the painting below!
